How can we help developers?
As part
of the planning process, new developments in the UK are
assessed for their archaeological impact. This often results
in an archaeological condition being attached to planning
permission. Such conditions will be met by the developer
appointing an archaeological contractor such as Archenfield
Archaeology.
As a consequence, archaeology in the UK is currently almost
exclusively funded by developers. Although the costs are
usually a relatively small part of total project costs,
it is in the developer's interest to identify them at
an early stage. We have been
Highly Commended in the 'developer funded archaeology'
section of the British Archaeological Awards for both
years that the awards have been running (see 'News'
section).
We have wide experience of the operation of 'developer
funded' archaeology and a knowledge of modern design
and construction techniques.
This enables us to:
Quickly and accurately identify the client's needs,
even before planning permission has been sought. Such
pre-determination interventions can lead to reduced
delays and costs.
Help to inform creative design solutions
Ensure that the correct level of intervention is recommended;
again avoiding unnecessary expense and delays
Make detailed reports for inclusion in environmental
impact assessments
Provide a comprehensive project management service from
design stage through to project completion
Make arrangements for the removal and re-committal of
human remains in order to comply with legal requirements
and local sensitivities
Provide competitively priced project designs in response
to briefs issued by curatorial bodies
Manage liaison with national heritage agencies (English
Heritage, CADW, RCHMW, etc.)
Work efficiently with architects, quantity surveyors,
site agents, consulting engineers and construction workers
Produce complete, detailed and accurate reports for
submission to the local authority on the client's behalf
Design web pages for access through the World Wide Web
about your project
Manage media interest in archaeological projects and
raise the client's public relations profile
