St John's Church, Hereford |

Hereford’s Primitive Methodists first met in a cottage in the St Owen’s Gate area of the city before renting a hay-loft above a stable in Union Street. A purpose-built chapel was erected in St Owen’s Street in 1838, and this building having served as a cinema (the ‘Kinema’ later the ‘Pavilion’) is now a launderette. A growing congregation necessitated the building of a new church. This was opened for worship in 1880, on a site nearer the centre of town. The communities of this church and that of one in Bridge Street were merged in 1935, and the last service in the Bridge Street building took place in 1967. The front of the present building was restored in the 1970s and more recently more improvements have been made with flower beds and wheelchair access.
