Description Lower fill of pit 300, covered by fill 303. Layer of white mortar or lime, mixed with a silty brown clay. This fill was fairly compact in areas but was probably a dump rather than a lining to the pit.

Description Fill of 300. Grey black silty clay with sandstone flags throughout. There were also charcoal fragments and flecks within the fill, and lots of animal bone - mainly sheep horns.
Comment The feature was first determined by sandstone flags on the surface.

Description Linear ditch running NNW - SSE. The sides were well defined, angled around 45 degrees and with a break into a U-shaped base. Filled by 307. The ditch has an upper fill (316) that has been cut by pit 300.
Comment Upper fill 316 can be seen in the opposite section and others cut through the ditch. Same as 258.

Description Fill of 306. Same as 259. Dark grey black silty clay containing flecks of charcoal. The soil was compact and reliable, with Early Medieval green glaze pottery. In the upper part of 307 there were some orange clay mottles and pottery flecks.
