Description Layer overlying grey clay 234, this was up to 0.7 metres deep and was at 0.9 metres below the ground surface and was cut by ditch 48. It was pale brown streaked by reddish brown with occasional flecks of charcoal. To the north of ditch 48, it sealed a band of clean gravel which was 0.25 metres deep. To the south of 48, 233 mixed with waterlogged wood for 0.25 metres. This got greyer towards the bottom.
Comment Lower level of alluviation above grey clay. An earlier phase of alluviation than 203, 212, lying above the fluvioglacial gravels.

Description A sequence of mid grey silty clay deposits containing moderate waterlogged with occasional grey clay layer beneath ditch 48. It contained a moderate amount of waterlogged wood with gravel and grey-stained gravel - no charcoal visible. A sample of the wood was retained (sample 86) and a sample of soil (sample 48)
Comment fill of paleochannel.
