   The Limes

Norton Canon means simple the North settlement of the canons of Hereford Cathedral.

In Domesday (as simply Nortune) there were 6 hides which paid tax and one plough in lordship.

There were 8 villeins and 3 bordars with 8½ ploughs and there was also a female slave.

There was 1 acre of meadow and woodland which paid 2 shillings.

The  value before 1066, and later was 60 shillings - 'now 100 shillings'

The Three Horsehoes at Norton Canon has an award-winning attached brewery - Shoes Brewery. Its Farriers Ale is the strongest brewed beer in England and has been regularly sponsored by Archenfield Archaeology at the Barrels Beer Festival in Hereford.
