This  survey  was  carried out  in  collaboration  with  Archaeophysica,  a  specialist  geophysical  survey  company working on  behalf  of  the  Galway County Council  and  the  NRA.  Various  transects  along  the line  of  the  proposed  Galway to Ballinasloe (N6) Road  scheme were surveyed  using  magnetometry.  In  order  to  achieve  the  minimum required  level of  locational  accuracy ( +/- 10 mm)  a Trimble  RTK  GPS base  station and  rover  unit  were  employed  by  us  to   stake  out  the   transects.

Along  the  way  we   found  some   very  well  preserved  ringworks and  a  rare  example  of  a  souterrain,  or  underground  burial  chamber,  as  well  as  some  very  curious  sheep and  lots  of   vicious  electric  fences!
